About Bank of Ann Arbor
In the summer of 1995, a group of prominent business people began the process of organizing the city′s only local bank. The applications for a new bank charter and for deposit insurance were both filed that summer and the banking office at 125 S. Fifth Avenue was purchased from Comerica Bank. Six million dollars of initial capital was raised in the local community from businesses and professionals and the bank opened its doors on January 16, 1996 with 15 employees and one location.
Today Bank of Ann Arbor has grown to over $1 billion in total assets and assets under management, six locations and employs nearly 100 people. And still locally owned and managed.
After graduating from Purdue University, Tim Marshall quickly chose a management trainee position with American Fletcher National Bank in Indianapolis. His desire to focus on technical sales and led him from a credit analyst/management trainee position into the Lending Department, and to a loan portfolio in excess of $200 million.
After taking a short break from banking, Tim served as President and COO of a family-owned community bank in Indiana. Under his guidance the bank grew from $250 million to over $900 million in assets.
Tim Marshall joined Bank of Ann Arbor in 2004 as President. He became CEO with the retirement of its founding president in January 2005. In addition to his outstanding work ethic, Tim is actively involved in the Ann Arbor community, with leadership roles with Washtenaw County United Way, Ann Arbor Spark, and Washtenaw Economic Club, to name a few.
Outside of work, Tim enjoys spending time on the lake with his wife Emily and two grown sons. They all enjoy sports, with Tim′s favorite of Open Wheel auto racing.
In building Bank of Ann Arbor as the premier financial institution in Washtenaw County, Tim Marshall has balanced respect for its history with a view to the challenges of the future to create a road map for its success five to ten years down the road. Tim′s determined and disciplined leadership has created a strong stable community bank that is a bright spot in the southeastern Michigan economy.
