West Pole, Inc., 2004 - 2007

Consultant

Designed information and knowledge management systems for a multinational pharmaceutical company.

  • Performed user needs assessment, requirements documentation, prototype design (in Axure) and final user interface design for a faceted internal search and browse tool utilizing multiple vocabulary hierarchies. Conducted evaluations and iterative adjustments to tune search tool behavior and results design. Adapted taxonomies for use in indexing, browsing and searching.
  • Executed business needs assessment and requirements gathering for personal and community profiles feature. Created scenarios and mockups articulating the user experience vision for a suite of new knowledge management applications incorporating profiles.
  • Created role-dependent interaction models and interfaces for a user-configurable news and article alert system.
  • Evaluated and documented business and user needs and designed an innovative user interface for an internal system for acquiring published material. Greatly improved user experience and created alternate success flows and tolerance for faults from content vendor systems.
  • Led a usability evaluation of internal portal environment, and developed interface design guidelines based on UI patterns

  • Designed and managed the ongoing development of online collaboratory data collection and reporting tool. Contributed to data collection, interviews, research, and analysis of the technical and social factors leading to the success of collaboratories, including articulation of attributes and data through taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, object design, and visualizations.

  • Designed event management web application enabling efficient organization of project workshops and remote access to participant info, mailing lists, agendas, files, supporting facilities, services, and resource information.

  • Co-orchestrated four workshops for a National Science Foundation (NSF) Information Technology Research grant and two workshops for the NSF Cyberinfrastructure Initiative.

  • Interface design of a pipeline inventory information tracking system for a global energy corp.

  • Conducted exploration for a redesign of the web and client applications used to manage patients at an organ transplant clinic at a major university medical facility.
