Google’s Launches Brand Management Application

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Google has launched a new app called “Me On The Web’. It can be found on the Google Dashboard in between Account Information and Analytics. Most of the available tools are available as alerts, which were previously available. Managing the alerts is now easier to set up.

Most digital agencies now incorporate brand management into their products available for clients. This release will make that management easier to do. Of course, that is a potential problem for the digital agency, as now it might be so simple that businesses will not outsource this task. To counter this potentiality, the digital agency needs to differentiate its brand management portfolio by offering a more sophisticated service.

Cord Cutting May Not Reduce Number of Ad

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Hulu is in negotiations with News Corporation, owner of the Fox networks, to increase the numbers of ads delivered by Fox during Hulu content. Currently, Hulu delivers most of the ads during an episode, however, the networks providing the content are allowed to deliver some of the ads. News Corp wants to deliver more of those ads.

Making the content available online causes a share drop on TV ratings and that causes a revenue drop. Networks would like to be able to carry over some of the same advertisers so those revenues do not drop as significantly. Hulu benefits from carrying networked content because that is what draws the crowds.

The bellwether came from the CW Network’s online offerings. In 2010 the CW Network’s online advertising reached almost the same load as the broadcast advertising load. While many would expect this to drop viewership, it actually rose by 55% and 94% of the ads were watched to completion.

Many digital agencies may have felt stymied about advertising on TV content providers. The CW Network’s experiment, however, turns the conventional wisdom about viewers being allergic to ads on its ear. This will probably result in a rise in the amount of ad space available as well as a drop in those prices. This can be expected until certain levels of viewers have cut the cord and then viewership will become allergic to those advertisements. For now, however, we are not at that tipping point.

Turn Employees into Brand Ambassadors

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Looking for brand ambassadors? Turn to your employees.

AdAge recently published an interesting article on how to turn your own employees into great brand ambassadors for your company. They speak on many points, with an overwhelming conclusion that “consumers increasingly base their feelings about a company on what they know about its people, rather than what an ad agency’s creative team can portray.

Business as we know it is becoming more and more transparent. Companies are (whether by choice or not) giving consumers a look inside their operations.  People can, and will, find whatever they can about you on the internet. You need to make sure these people are reading credible and official information about your company and employees.

AdAge sums it up, “There’s a new and largely untapped resource within corporate walls that can help companies build brand equity, and it’s your employees — specifically those employees with individual personal brands.”

Personal Branding with Social Harbor

The article goes on to emphasize the importance for individuals to have established personal brands on the internet.

As companies begin to understand the interdependent relationship between employees and profits, a new model for hiring and sourcing talent emerges. Social media will pave the way for applicants to build strong relationships with recruiters well before a face-to-face interview. Now, instead of taking traditional applications, jobs will find recruits after they have built powerful personal brands online or through other forms of recognition. Hiring employees who have established personal brands will help companies immediately inherit value and relevance in a crowded market and may lead to quicker results in meeting growth objectives.

Our own conclusion? Get yourself online! Even if you’re not the type of person who surfs the web to network, establish your personal brand out there! At the very least you need to have a presence, ensure people find the right information about you, put it out there yourself!
